NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR OCTOBER 2023 MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME 👋

BE A GAME-CHANGER

Building a community to support and mentor the games industry

Our Mission

We aim to help the games industry become a more diverse place by doing the grass roots work in schools, universities and communities to encourage more people (and crucially a more diverse range of people) into our industry and to provide a safe space and sense of community for diverse members already here.

A place where we can come together to discuss issues with like-minded individuals, improve on our technical skills, management, public speaking or just simply somewhere to come, chat and make friends.

We do this through our mentorship programme, events as well as more informally through our thriving Discord community.

An introduction of the Mentorship Programme by Sophie Hendey - Diversity Champions’s Founder.

We are aiming to create the future diverse leaders of the Games industry.
— Sophie, Diversity Champions Founder

Mentorship Programme

We pair ambitious Proteges (mentees) with like-minded Diversity Champions (mentors) to mentor, encourage, advise and empower each other.

We strive to pair Proteges and Champions as effectively as possible by taking into account your job role, experience, background, challenges and ambitions to ensure both parties have a fulfilling experience. We also host events throughout the year to encourage opportunities to meet new gaming professionals and to help champion each other.

  • Maybe you want to be a part of a brilliant community

We are incredibly proud of the community we have created here. As well as the work being done by Diversity Champions employees, we also have numerous unpaid volunteers who work as ambassadors for the community. We invite everyone who supports the mission to diversify the industry to join the Discord server:

  • Maybe you want to spread the kindness

Our ambassadors have spent hours tirelessly helping us grow the programme through raising awareness and building our discord community as a safe space to share problems, ideas and ask for help from industry veterans.

  • Maybe you want to nurture a young mind

We believe that not enough grass-roots work is being done in universities or schools to show young people (particularly those who don't fit the usual mould of "gamer") what a lucrative and rewarding career the games industry can be. We regularly visit schools, youth groups and universities to discuss the numerous paths there are to the industry and the best ways to get onto those paths. You can see more about this work below:

A bit of showing off...

  • Nat, Software Engineer

“I wanted to reach out and say I’ve just finished up my mentorship and I couldn’t be more grateful for all the help and support I have received from the community and my mentor. I don’t think I would have been able to handle being the only woman and neurodiverse woman in my new team without your added support.

What an awesome community we are building!!!!”

  • Riana McKeith, Art Director

“Just wanted to give you a small update - I'm happy to say that my mentee Liliana has been offered not one, but two new roles! She's accepted her favourite (in her dream company), successfully negotiated a nice pay rise & handed in her notice. I feel really proud to have been able to help her on her journey, though I do feel she did all the hard work herself.

This means that I will be phasing out my mentorship once she's settled in her new role so I should be ready for a new mentee in perhaps 1-2 months.

Thanks for arranging this mentorship, it's been a real pleasure.”

  • Yumi Wu, 1st year Games Programmer

“I’m really grateful for the help received by the Diversity Champions team and my mentor, Alejandro, to develop my confidence and support my development workflow!”
